The works comprised demolitions and alterations to existing areas and the construction of a single storey extension to form a new control room suite. Dedicated mechanical and electrical services were incorporated together with an extensive state of the art data, radio and telephone installation which included on-screen call taking facilities and a computerized A to Z of London to enable control staff to reduce activation times for ambulance crews.
The project, which was completed on programme, enabled LAS staff to go live in the largest ambulance control and command centre in Europe that receives in the order of 2,500 calls a day.
